What it is: an international standard for collecting and exchanging reliability & maintenance (RM) data with a consistent equipment taxonomy and defined failure/maintenance fields. It originated in oil & gas, but the data principles apply in any asset‑intensive industry.

Why we use it

• Comparable data across sites: common equipment classes/sub‑units and event codes make MTBF/MTTR and bad‑actor analysis trustworthy.
• Clear boundaries: assets are defined the same way, so work and failure data roll up cleanly with no overlaps.
• Faster onboarding: new technicians see the same classes, codes and workflow everywhere.

Standard Modifier Dictionary (SMD) — our language for parts & BOMs

What it is: a technical dictionary and naming standard for MRO parts (materials master). It uses structured noun–modifier–attributes–values so descriptions are consistent, unambiguous and searchable.

• De‑duplicates & cleans stock: consistent descriptions surface duplicates and cut inventory noise.
• Faster find & pick: planners/techs can locate the right item; suppliers see the same spec.
• Better BOMs: like‑for‑like parts roll up correctly across sites.
